Killen's Steakhouse garners 2009 recognition

Pearland's Killen's Steakhouse (2804 S. Main, 281-485-0844) has caught the attention of Houston Chronicle restaurant critic Alison Cook who describes Killen's in these words: "Inside this white-tablecloth surprise, chef-owner Ron Killen not only runs Pearland's best restaurant but also one of the best Gulf Coast steak-and-seafood eateries in the Houston area, if not the state."

Cook recently listed the Kobe long-bone rib eye at Killen's as one of the best dishes of 2009. She recommends sharing the comparatively expensive cut with someone you really like after declaring, "My eyeballs rolled in their sockets when I first tasted this quintessence of beefiness, with its aggressive sear, outrageous heft and expansive flavor."

Other dishes noted by Cook are the "towering" Niman pork chop, chicken-fried sirloin steak, jumbo fried shrimp, "anything" with lump crabmeat, and creme brulee bread pudding.

Cook, Alison. 2010. "Cook's Tour: Tough to narrow down best dishes of 2009," Houston Chronicle, Jan. 14 sec. F (Preview & Dining Guide).
